Western Scholarship of Excellence

To recognize and reward the outstanding academic achievements of incoming high school students, Western offers this as the top tier of its automatic admission scholarship program. Consideration is based on the average calculated by Western's Admissions office, and eligible students receive a notification email to the address provided on their OUAC application in mid-to-late May, prior to the admission response deadline. It is available to both domestic and international students, and the Don Wright Faculty of Music separately selects recipients among applicants to a music program.

250 scholarships at $8,000 each ($6,000 in the first year, plus $2,000 for an optional study abroad experience)

Recipients may also receive a $2,000 Travel Grant if coming from an International or Out-of-Province high school

The scholarship is applied directly to the student's fee account before the first installment of fees is due

Cannot be combined with another admission scholarship

Must be applying for admission directly from secondary school; generally, students who have attended a post-secondary institution (or attended one and then returned to secondary school) are not eligible

Generally, home-schooled applicants are not eligible for consideration

Must register for full-time studies (minimum 3.5 courses) at Western's main campus; reducing to part-time or withdrawing forfeits the scholarship

Top high school admission average (this is the highest tier of Western's automatic scholarships)

Students in receipt of a National Scholarship, Schulich Leader Scholarship, Continue in Canada Admission Scholarship, or Welcome to Canada Admission Scholarship are not eligible

Non-Ontario applicants must submit their full application and supporting documents through OUAC by March 1st for consideration

Western determines averages for applicants not on a Canadian secondary curriculum based on curriculum, grading practices, and grading-scale interpretation

Admission scholarships cannot be deferred
