Shona Perry-Maidment Entrance Award

This award was established by a generous donation from Shona Perry-Maidment, one of Memorial University's first student recruitment officers, who went on to hold several leadership roles closely tied to student recruitment and welcomed thousands of students to Memorial from both the province and around the world. The award reflects her deep connection to rural Newfoundland and Labrador — particularly her home in Bloomfield, Bonavista Bay — while also honouring her global outlook. It is granted annually to an undergraduate student entering the University for the first time, with recipient selection rotating each year between a student who graduated high school in rural Newfoundland and Labrador and one who graduated high school in Africa, preferably Zimbabwe.

Value is a portion of the income earned on the award's endowment (exact dollar figure varies year to year based on endowment performance)

Non-renewable (per MUN's general international entrance scholarship terms, since this award is administered under that international entrance scholarship group), awarded for the recipient's first year of study

Must be an undergraduate student entering Memorial University for the first time

Selection alternates annually between: (a) a graduate of a high school in rural Newfoundland and Labrador, and (b) a graduate of a high school in Africa, preferably Zimbabwe

Preference given to students who excel academically

Must meet the minimum academic requirements for an award as defined by Memorial University of Newfoundland

International transfer students are only considered if fewer than 31 credit hours are being transferred (per MUN's general international entrance scholarship rules)
