An automatic, no-application entrance scholarship for high-achieving students from Quebec entering their first year of undergraduate studies at Queen's University, worth up to $20,000 total over four years.

About this scholarship

Established through the generosity of the late Senator Frank Carrel, this scholarship is awarded on the basis of general (academic) proficiency to candidates who, for at least one year at the time of their application, have been and remain domiciled in the Province of Quebec. Students in their second year of CEGEP are also eligible. Up to eight scholarships are awarded per year, and recipients are selected automatically as part of the regular admission process — no separate scholarship application is required.

What the award includes

Annual value: $5,000

Total value over the renewal period: $20,000

Renewable for 3 subsequent years (4 years total), provided the recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 3.5 in a full-time course load each year

Up to 8 scholarships available per year

Who can apply


  1. Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada who are residents of the province of Quebec
  2. Must have been, and remain, domiciled in Quebec for at least one year at the time of application (or be in second year of CEGEP)
  3. Entering the first year of any direct-entry undergraduate program at Queen's University
  4. High school/CEGEP average of 94%+ (IB Diploma applicants: 38 core points)
  5. To renew: must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 in a full-time course load each year
