Paul Tulane Award

Scholarship preview

Tulane's signature full-tuition merit scholarship, recognizing incoming first-year students with exceptional academic records, standardized test performance, leadership, and extraordinary intellectual promise across all academic areas of interest.

About this scholarship

The Paul Tulane Award is one of Tulane University's most prestigious merit scholarships, awarded to incoming first-time freshman applicants through the Office of Undergraduate Admission. It recognizes superior high school performance, a rigorous academic course load (honors and AP coursework), exceptional community and secondary school involvement, and extraordinary intellectual promise. Typical recipients rank in the top 5% of their high school class. Unlike some of Tulane's other merit scholarships, which are automatically considered alongside the standard admissions application, the Paul Tulane Award requires a separate, dedicated scholarship application, including short essays, a video, or a digital portfolio.

What the award includes

Full tuition coverage, guaranteed to match the full-time tuition cost each year

Renewable for four years of undergraduate study (five years for students in the accredited five-year professional Architecture programme)

Renewal requires maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA and continuous full-time enrollment in a Newcomb-Tulane College school

Who can apply

Must be an incoming first-time freshman applicant (not a transfer or continuing student)

Must meet Tulane's standard undergraduate admission requirements

Typical successful recipients (based on recent cohorts) have had: an ACT of 31+, an SAT of 1400+, and/or a core unweighted GPA of 3.7+ — though standardized test scores are not strictly required to be considered

Must demonstrate strong extracurricular involvement, leadership, and community engagement

Cannot be combined with any other Tulane merit scholarship, ROTC scholarship, Faculty-Staff Tuition Waiver, or Tuition Exchange Scholarship

Open to applicants of any nationality, per third-party sources — though international-specific financial aid processes (e.g., CSS Profile requirements) differ slightly, as noted below
