UMass Lowell offers a variety of scholarships to its first-time, first-year, undergraduate out-of-state and international applicants of exceptional merit.
About this scholarship
This is UML's primary merit scholarship track for first-year students who are not Massachusetts residents (out-of-state, national, and international applicants). Unlike UML's in-state Chancellor's or Dean's Scholarships, this program doesn't have fixed GPA/test-score cutoffs published — instead, the specific type and dollar amount of award a student receives depends on a comprehensive evaluation of that year's overall applicant pool, meaning awards can vary somewhat year to year based on the strength and size of the applicant cohort.
What the award includes
Annual scholarship awards ranging from $8,000 to $20,000
Renewable for up to eight consecutive semesters (four years) of undergraduate study
Applied automatically to eligible students' financial aid/billing account — no separate award-acceptance application needed once granted
Who can apply
Must be a first-time, first-year undergraduate applicant (freshman, not transfer)
Must be a domestic out-of-state resident, international applicant, or otherwise fall outside UML's in-state/New England Regional/Mid-Atlantic Regional categories
Must maintain, for renewal, a cumulative GPA of at least 3.000 and full-time enrollment status, for a maximum of eight consecutive semesters
No separate stated minimum GPA/test score for initial award — determined through comprehensive applicant-pool review
