A UK government-funded scholarship for talented people from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries to take a one-year taught Master’s at Swansea. The programme supports development in the scholar’s home country.
About this scholarship
- The awards are aimed at people who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK.
- They are offered under six CSC development themes.
- There is no rigid subject restriction, but priority goes to programmes that contribute directly to development goals in the applicant’s home country.
- Master’s awards are typically for a one-year taught degree, and MBA programmes are generally not eligible.
What the award includes
Full tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, return airfare and a warm clothing allowance where applicable. One aggregator gives the living allowance as up to £1,378 a month, so check the current rate on the CSC site. Scholars can’t take paid employment during the award without prior CSC approval.
Who can apply
- Be a Commonwealth citizen, refugee or British protected person, and be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- Hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) standard by the start date, or a lower second plus a relevant postgraduate qualification.
- Be unable to afford to study in the UK without the scholarship.
- Apply for an eligible full-time taught Master’s at Swansea.
- The CSC would not normally fund a second Master’s degree, so you’d need to justify one.
- Only applicants from CSC’s eligible-country list can apply.
