About this scholarship
The BK Birla Scholars Programme is supported by a generous £15 million endowed scholarship gift from the Aditya Birla Group, with the first cohort starting in Autumn 2019. Announced by LBS alumnus Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, it marks the largest endowed scholarship gift to a European Business School. The programme honours the legacy of Mr Birla's late grandfather, celebrated industrialist, philanthropist and pioneer Basant Kumar (BK) Birla (1921–2019), who viewed access to higher education as a fundamental right for all. The programme continues to empower scholars from diverse backgrounds, including India, the UK, USA, Singapore, and Poland, alleviating financial burdens while opening doors to opportunities for growth and leadership.
What the award includes
Worth up to full fees
Provides funding in perpetuity to 10 outstanding full-time MBA candidates every year — five from India, five from the rest of the world
Scholars also gain access to enrichment opportunities such as professional treks and exchange programmes (per past recipient testimonials)
Who can apply
Open to the top 5% of the full-time MBA class, representing the mark of highest distinction among students
Candidates must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and uphold the ideals of integrity, dedication, and service to humanity, in honour of the legacy and values of BK Birla
Must be enrolled in LBS's full-time MBA programme
Five scholars are selected from India, and five from the rest of the world each year
