Besio Family Scholarship

The Besio Family Scholarship is open to incoming first-year students at the University of Notre Dame who plan to major in engineering or business. Selection is based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated service to community. It is one of more than 20 named merit scholarships under Notre Dame's Scholars' Program, and it is entirely separate from any need-based financial aid a student may also receive.

$25,000 per year toward tuition, renewable for up to four years, totaling $100,000

Independent of any other financial aid the student may receive

Mandatory participation in a funded one-week Outward Bound Wilderness Leadership Canoe Expedition in the Boundary Waters, Minnesota

Access to a Besio enrichment fund for academic research projects and professional development opportunities throughout the four years

Personalized mentoring and invitations to extracurricular professional development/service events through the Notre Dame Scholars' Program

Must be an incoming first-year (freshman) student, domestic or international

Must intend to major in engineering or business

Must be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate

Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (falling below results in probation; two consecutive semesters below 3.0 leads to revocation)

Must maintain good academic and disciplinary standing (probation or dismissal results in automatic loss of the scholarship)

Scholarship eligibility extends for a maximum of eight semesters

If a scholar changes academic intent away from engineering/business, they must notify the Faculty Director after three semesters to transfer to an equivalent merit scholarship (enrichment funding may not carry over)
